St. Lucy

St. Lucy St. Lucy caps Barbados, and it does it quite nicely. The Majority of the northern coast is rocky and cliffy, and the seas are not on the whole pleasant for bathing, although places like River Bay have quite nice beaches and are popular for picnics. However, while St. Lucy may appear rugged and forbidding it offers some very spectacular sights.

The Animal Flower Cave is open to visitors for a very small fee. The Animal Flower Cave is a wave eroded cavern, which derives its name from the small sea-anemones growing in it. Amidst the stalagmites and stalactites, growing from the floor and the ceiling respectively, these small creatures do indeed seem to be flowers as their tentacles spread out and then retract.

When the wind is from the north, serious surfers head out to St. Lucy to tackle the often 15' high waves at Duppies. Duppies is the Bajan word for ghosts, or spirits (not the drinking kind), and the name suits this area, with its tales of sharks and other mysterious happenings.
